The Period Piece
2023 - 7 HOUR SCULPTURAL PERFORMANCE
“The Period Piece” was performed from 12-7pm on December 10, 2023, at 65 East College St in Oberlin, OH, as a part of the Fall Junior Studio course. It was exhibited the following week at “Half a Dozen” with sculpture and set untouched and free for gallery goers to inspect, as well as with additional video and photo documentation by Fern Anfinson.
Why is a drying rack placed right below a cartoonish bucket dump? Why do I continue to put clothes on the drying rack when I know the bucket will dump again? Why am I dressed in lingerie with heavy makeup as I clean and rush about? And why is this pointless endeavor 7 hours long??! I heave, I shiver, I sweat, I gasp, I struggle, I slip, I rush, I cry. And the bucket keeps pouring. So, I keep cleaning until my period ends (the 7 hours are up) and I dump the remaining bucket upon myself.
